- Michigan Man Arrested and Prosecuted for Wifi Theft from a free cafe wi-fi connection
- The Police Chief of Sparta, Michigan, Andrew Milanowski, just "knew" that a law was being broken, eventhough he didn't know which law, when he spotted Sam Peterson II using a wi-fi connection at the Re-Union St. Cafe. The cafe owner didn't know either. But they eventually decided the "Unauthorized Use of Computer Access" law applied, and this poor sap was prosecuted for this crime. For checking his email using the cafe's free wireless connection, he ended up $400 fine and 40 hours of community service. The police chief claims the crime is a felony, and Peterson was lucky to not have served five years in prison and fined $10,000.
